Sustainability strategy
Our sustainability strategy is centered on two main aspects which are briefly presented below.
One-Planet-Living-Framework
The Summer Feeling at University Beach 2026 is primarily based on Bioregional's One Planet Living Framework. These 10 principles (described below) provide an internationally recognized, comprehensive guide to sustainable events. Our goal is to implement effective sustainability measures in all areas of activity during the event. This includes, among other things, the development and implementation of concepts for the individual departments, which include, for example, the areas of mobility, catering, and waste management. Our vision is clear: we want to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible and create an event that is noticeably more climate-friendly.
- Health and happinessHide
-
It is well known that health is the foundation for a healthy life, both physically and mentally. It is the basic prerequisite for sustainability to make sense. In this respect, sustainable action is extremely important in order to enable the health of all people and other living beings. We want to encourage an active and social life that promotes health and in which the meaning of life can be found. Our event, which focuses on beach sports, aims to raise awareness that being active in a community is a really valuable thing.
- Prosperity and economic growth for allHide
-
Our focus is on economic sustainability, which is also linked to social and environmental sustainability. We rely as much as possible on local and independent companies in order to strengthen the regional economy. It is important to us to pay attention to the origin of products within the scope of our possibilities and to support those that are fairly traded. We also want to offer regional companies and small businesses the opportunity to present themselves at the Summer Feeling on the university beach, for example as advertising partners.
- Culture and societyHide
-
In order to live happily and harmoniously together, it is necessary to protect traditions and tangible and intangible cultural heritage from around the world. This also promotes economic growth, culture, and tourism. Even before its sixth edition, Summer Feeling at the University Beach has already become a tradition in Bayreuth, helping to strengthen the sense of community in the region. However, the event is not only intended to contribute passively to sustainability, but also to actively promote it. Visitors will therefore be made aware of environmentally friendly and socially responsible behavior through information material and interactive stations.
- MobilityHide
-
Mobility alone can account for 70% of CO2 emissions at an event, contributing to over 20% of total emissions. To promote environmental sustainability, it is necessary to encourage active travel on foot or by bicycle. In addition, environmentally friendly modes of transport such as public transport should be promoted. At Summer Feeling at the university beach, we therefore want to promote climate-friendly travel, preferably on foot or by bicycle, but also the use of public transport instead of cars.
- Land and nature conservationHide
-
In the interests of promoting the common good, the principle of land and nature conservation aims to protect the habitat of all organisms (including humans). In addition, habitats that have already been damaged should be restored. For the Summer Feeling at the university beach, this means that we want to leave our surroundings as we found them. We are also committed to optimizing it in the long term. This applies not only to the immediate vicinity of the university, but also to the paths leading to the campus.
- Local and sustainable foodHide
-
The aim of the principle of local and sustainable food is to promote the cultivation of sustainable products that are produced under humane conditions. In addition, a healthy diet consisting of local and seasonal fruit and vegetables (preferably from organic farming) and plant-based proteins is recommended. Summer Feeling at Unistrand will therefore pay particular attention to the sale of sustainable products in its catering. We also want to work with regional suppliers such as bakeries and butchers who produce their products in a fair and ecological manner. In addition, we promote healthy eating by offering healthy alternatives alongside the usual fare at a fun event such as bratwurst and beer.
- Sustainable water managementHide
-
Sustainable water management promotes the efficient consumption and use of water. This includes protecting local water sources and guarding against floods and droughts. We therefore pay close attention to water consumption, which includes both drinking water and water used for organizational purposes.
- Materials and productsHide
-
The use of materials and products must be sustainable throughout their entire life cycle. We promote the responsible selection of products and raw materials that are durable, resource-efficient, recyclable, and as low-emission as possible. Our materials and products are deliberately selected for the planning, construction, operation, and design of the event. Wherever possible, we rely on durable, reusable, regional, and environmentally friendly solutions. We also design our procurement processes to conserve resources and reduce waste. We actively involve our partners, service providers, and suppliers in this process.
- Reduction of WasteHide
-
Waste should be avoided as much as possible and materials should be kept in circulation. We focus on conscious consumption, reuse, recycling, and systems that conserve resources and reduce waste. For the Summer Feeling at Unistrand, this means that we will carefully monitor the waste generated at all event locations and actively reduce it. We promote solutions that enable reuse, recyclability, and recycling, and work with our partners to find ways to make material flows leaner and more sustainable. Our goal is to throw away less and use resources for longer.
- CO2-free energyHide
-
CO2-free energies aim to use energy efficiently and obtain it as completely as possible from renewable, low-emission sources. We support the transition to an energy supply that protects the climate and environment and is sustainable in the long term. At Summer Feeling at Unistrand, we not only rethink the electricity requirements during the event, but also try to make the energy supply as climate-neutral as possible. We strive to plan energy consumption efficiently and use renewable energy sources wherever possible. In this way, we want to ensure that the event is not only a great experience for visitors, but also leaves as small a carbon footprint as possible.
Ten Fields of Action
Our second goal is to implement comprehensive sustainability measures in ten relevant fields of action during the event. These cover various areas, including mobility, catering and waste management. Our vision is to minimize the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the event and to promote an environmentally friendly event.
